Tying The Knot With An Amagami Sister Announces PV, Staff

While I might hold an unreasonable grudge towards Tying The Knot With An Amagami Sister as it came to print in English before Girlfriend Girlfriend, I can’t deny my curiosity at this anime being announced to be from Studio Drive. Evidently, Drive is still something of a younger studio, and their range of talent and connections ever growing. They were very much a no name studio, until they were announced to be working on Konusuba season 3, and the spinoff Konosuba: An Explosion On This Wonderful World. Since then, a lot of eyes have remained trained on the studio, and quite a few interesting opinions and thoughts have been traded in regards to how fans will think the third season of a favorite will go over. Though, this is about a RomCom, not an isekai comedy, so allow me to get back on track.

Staff

Director: Abe Yuujirou

Yuujirou, with Tying The Knot With An Amagami Sister, has become a mainstay director for Drive now. 3 works within a year is quite surprising, but I have a decent amount of faith. Yuujirou has solid connections with great animators like Kazunori Ozawa, and has done some surprising good work for their rather short credit list. Don’t expect the world, but I think good work will be apparent with this series.

Character Design: Izuka Haruko

This is a credit I’m excited for. Haruko does some really amazing work with character designs, their most recently announced credit being for The Magical Girl and The Evil Lieutenant Used To Be Archenemies at Bones. Haruko does a phenomenal job of bringing out the most in the designs they work on, all the while ensuring they’re malleable and easy (enough) to animate. Great work, strong history, I’m very happy to see them here.

Assistant Direction: Watanabe Hiroshi

Assistant direction isn’t the greatest or most insightful credit, but it’s one that’s popped up every so often with Drive. The name explains itself, and so Hiroshi is on this anime to provide a bit of help to Yuujirou, really making up for experience and history as Hiroshi’s direction credits date well back into the 90s. I’d be uncomfortable if they were the lead, but as support I think they’ll do well.

And, that’s about all the staff we have so far. Color me surprised, really.

Really, I am quite surprised. They show off enough of the environment art that I’m certain someone out there will correctly guess the staff responsible for art direction. I’m rather confident that photographic direction will remain a mystery, as it’s a much more homogeneous credit, but for something like art direction there’s a lot that can you can tell from a handful of still images.

All in all, I have little to no interest in Tying The Knot With An Amagami Sister personally. Much more than the subject, I’m largely curious about how Drive will handle this series, and how it might compare to Abe Yuujirou’s previous series at Drive, and what it could mean for Konosuba season 3 moving forward. Unfortunately, this PV doesn’t really betray too much information to that end. Seeing Izuka Haruko appear is great news for future series, but it seems we’ll have to wait for another PV to get some more information.
